The admission criteria for subsidized cases, ie from low income families and those receiving public assistance from Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports must meet the Ministry of Health’s criteria and means test. These will be assessed for suitability for nursing home care based on the following criteria:

  • Must be a Singaporean citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Household income per capita of $1000 and less.
  • Applicant’s residential status and savings.
  • Any sick person, especially the elderly sick, with medical conditions, must be semi-ambulant, wheel-chair or bed bound.
  • Applicant’s level of care must fall within the category 3 & 4, categorized by the Ministry’s Resident Assessment Form, and requiring a high dependency level of nursing care.
  • Applicant with no close relative or care giver to support or care for them.
  • Applicant must not have suicidal or violent tendencies.

The Lions Home is allowed to accommodate up to 10% of non-subsidized cases, ie applicants who do not meet the Ministry of Health’s criteria for receiving subsidy.

The following criteria for admission for these cases are:

  • Must be a Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Applicant with medical condition requiring nursing care.
  • Applicant with psychological and psychiatric illnesses must not have suicidal or violent tendencies.
